Colorbond Fence

If you want strength and durability for your fencing needs, look no further than a Colorbond fence. With high-quality prefabricated and pre-painted panels, you will have lightweight yet strong fencing for privacy, safety, protection, and anything else you might need. Colorbond fencing is perfect because it is resistant to corrosive elements and can last decades.

Now that you know about Colorbond’s superior fencing system, you will want to learn the best practices for installing a Colorbond fence. Keep reading for instructions from professionals on how to install Colorbond fence panels easily. Let’s get started.

Tips for Getting Started

First, you must find someone to help you with the installation process. Since the panels are large, you must consider safety and general ease before beginning your project. To that end, you should work with someone throughout the installation. As a bonus, when you work together, you’ll get the job done much more quickly!

Depending on the length of fencing you will be installing, the placement will take approximately two days or more. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions throughout the activity.

Step-by-Step Guide for Colorbond Fence Installation

Step-by-Step Guide for Colorbond Fence Installation

1. Installing the Posts

Begin by digging holes approximately 600mm deep for the Colorbond posts. Place the posts into the holes with the desired height protruding from the ground. Use a spirit level to ensure the posts are upright, then add Kwikset concrete with water, following the instructions on the concrete bag for the correct mixture. End posts require one Colorbond post, while intermediate posts need two Colorbond posts placed back to back. Space the posts according to the size of the panels you are installing.

2. Installing the Bottom Rail

Start your installation by positioning the bottom rail, which is necessary to place the Colorbond sheets. Insert the rail between the first two posts, using a spirit level to ensure an even installation. Secure the rail to the posts using a cordless drill and screws.

3. Installing the First Panel

With the help of a partner, begin installing the Colorbond sheets. Start in one corner, inserting the bottom of a Colorbond panel close to the end post. Angle the panel and use gentle pressure to push it down into the bottom rail. Slide the panel back to align it with the post.

4. Installing the Top Rail

Place the top rail between the first two posts to secure the first Colorbond panel. Press the corrugated areas on the panel inside the top rail while leaving the last corrugated area exposed for the next panel to fit firmly.

5. Installing the Remaining Sheets

Using the same process, install the rest of the sheets. Insert the bottom portion of each sheet first so that the corrugated areas overlap. Slide each sheet into place inside the bottom rail and press the top rail down onto each sheet for a tight fit. Continue this process for all remaining sheets.

6. Securing the Top Rail

Once all sheets in the first section are in place, push the top rail down firmly to secure the connection. Ensure an even fit with a spirit level, then use a cordless drill to screw the top rail through the posts on both sides of the Colorbond sheets.

7. Installing the Remaining Panels

Repeat the previous steps to install the bottom rail, infill sheets, and top rail for the remaining sections of the fence until all major sections are complete.

8. Trimming the Infill Sheets

If any areas require a panel to be cut to fit the space, measure the length between the posts and mark it on both the top and bottom of the panel. Use a level to draw a straight line connecting the points.

9. Cutting the Sheets

Wear safety gear and use an angle grinder to cut along the lines marked in the previous step.

10. Cutting the Rails

Using the previous measurements, cut the top and bottom rails to the required length. Secure the rail to a sawhorse with a clamp and use an angle grinder to make the cuts.

11. Installing the Last Panel

Place the final panel between the two posts, ensuring it is level with a spirit level. Use a cordless drill to screw the bottom rail between the two posts, securing the final panel in place.

By following these steps, you can successfully install a Colorbond fence, achieving a professional finish while saving on labor costs.

12. Maintenance Tips

To keep your Colorbond fence in top condition, follow these maintenance tips:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the fence periodically with a garden hose and mild detergent to remove dirt and grime.

  • Inspect for Damage: Regularly inspect the fence for any signs of damage, such as scratches or rust, and address them promptly.

  • Trim Vegetation: Keep plants and bushes trimmed away from the fence to prevent moisture buildup and potential damage.

Conclusion

Installing a Colorbond fence can be a rewarding DIY project that enhances the security and aesthetics of your property. By following this step-by-step guide, you can achieve professional-looking results while saving on labor costs. Remember to take your time with each step, ensuring accuracy and stability for a fence that will last for years to come. With proper planning, the right tools, and attention to detail, you can successfully install a durable and attractive Colorbond fence on your own.
